We’re born and develop a curious nature. As we grow the world continues to grow bigger every year. Babies see things for the first time and they become inspired, interactive! As curiosity grows new adventures gives way to new beginnings!! Then a new magical perspective of the world builds around us.
Of course, from here starts the path into a life where knowledge and success rule our lives! The world is our Oyster! We have many opportunities and we’re taught to strive to be good upstanding members of society!
As a matter of fact, the more we mature the more we gain an understanding of who we are as a person. What we learn and what we want to do play a large role in our lives. We teach Children the fundamentals of being a productive human being!
We`re sent to school and taught to be dependable, practical, and intellectual! We learn to become more civilized, sensible, logical, and responsible! These seven rocking character traits are important in life! Still they come up short in the fight to help us fix our environmental issues.
After twelve years of learning its time to search for success and money. Yet, somehow what we’ve learned has no vision for a sustainable future. The respectful treatment of our environment is secondary to money. Then they’re launched into the “real world”!
I`ve identified how these character traits have let us down in the fight to save the world! If we don’t talk about these problems then solutions will be difficult to achieve.
Humanity has changed on a fundamental level. Our society is more sophisticated than ever. We are a civilized culture that has seen great technological advances. Gone are the days of wild Neanderthals, roaming in nomadic tribes. We`re no longer search for food and tools for survival in the same way!
Our self-made world of central air and heating has dulled the harsh weather extremes. We have many comforts available at our fingertips! We are more civilized because knowledge was passed down from ancestors!
With continued social and technological advancements we’re also creating efficient energy consumption. Yet, Government, Religion, and the basic organizational structure fail to address environmental issues. So, our reliance on fossil fuels will continue local and widespread environmental disasters.
Our environmental policy has to change. Is it logical to teach children the environment is an anomaly in economics? The heart of the current economic system depends on environmental resources.
The health of the environment depends on a sustainable economic system. It’s a relationship where one system needs the other to survive. Therefore, changing needless spending is a pillar for the future of our children.
Our lives depend on a viable and sustainable system. The matter is so important that influential minds have attended Summits. Summits designed to change policies like the Copenhagen accord and the Paris agreement.
Unfortunately, these meetings haven`t shown the results we need.
Now it`s at the forefront of social media. Children are taking up the task to raise awareness around the world. They’re asking leaders to produce results. Reduce carbon emissions instead of talking about it.
It`s a stalemate! We’re feeling the need to talk about our environmental issues today. Yet, talks are ongoing. Solving the problems are far from a solution.
Moreover, leaders can’t do it by themselves. They’re struggling to agree upon a universal solution. The complex supply chain is hard to manage. Supply and demand are rising! Leaders need people to start thinking about what they can do to help! CO2 levels continue to rise so it’s a good idea to take action now! Not later…
There are lots of dependable people all around us. We can count on them to be there for us! Yet, young children still need time to learn and practice this ability. Their focus is often distracted by grades, video games, sports, and friends!
Our dependants need adults to be dependable and use creative ways to come up with a solution. Even though we’re not born independent it takes time to be dependable.
Distractions don’t go away and life remains busy. Time moves faster and our lives get a little crazier! For this reason, as Parents, we don’t hold our behavior accountable. It’s difficult to live as environmental stewards on a daily basis.
So, Let’s create a centralized resource management system for Earth’s resources. If the Bees, Elephants, or Fish in the Sea could talk they’d agree!? What would they say about us now?
Is it too late for the next generation? As a matter of fact, Canadians have one of the best educational systems in the world. We’re among the most educated in the world. Canadians can create an educational format which could develop an economic conservation system.
The creation of programs such as supply management, and environmental interrelated disciplines. They would include broad scope courses such as:
- Environmental Democracy,
- independent accountability mechanisms,
- human rights,
- climate finance
- defending the defenders.
All these courses should be used as a tool to stimulate change and a new economy. Furthermore, learning about Nature and Recycling is no longer enough! It’s difficult to believe that School Trustees are doing the best they can. After all, the school system still endorses a curriculum on virgin paper!
At the moment, we’re more concerned with the experience rather than the weight of our actions. The smallest acts like drinking a cup of coffee have no real significance. But, these compelling facts don’t cross the minds of those enjoying a good cup of JO!
For instance, it takes one hundred and forty liters of water to grow beans in a single cup of coffee. Plus, the production of coffee beans contributes to deforestation destroying habitats. This speeds up the extinction of animals in these regions. But for the majority, this kind of ideology in practical life isn’t convenient.
Also, images from the media tell a story of our practical nature. The photos and videos create catastrophic results on wildlife. Thus, it’s our responsibility to be conservative and live a sustainable way of life. Governments, Individuals, and corporations all have to work together.
Our sensible character traits give us a unique awareness of the feelings of those around us. Yet, our range of sensibility is not global. Those that suffer in broad distances don’t have our immediate attention. For this reason, sensibility falls short of being what we need. We don’t see the urgency to make a difference in the lives of strangers.
Mostly, because middle-class Canadians don`t live in extreme poverty, filthy conditions, or environmental degradation. Most Canadians believe their actions here at home won’t affect the lives of those living in poverty. We watch media stories that report piles of trash, air pollution, and contamination. But, it`s yet to give us a reason to simplify our lives here at home.
Each individual plays a role to create a greater social system. I pay bills on time, save a little money, and make sure my son is warm and fed. So shouldn’t I fall into the category of an upstanding responsible citizen? Not only is it not good enough anymore. It is equally important to have the responsibility to make our carbon footprint smaller.
To be responsible there has to be a system for accountability. Otherwise, we will continue buying and using single-use plastics. There is only one way to achieve greatness. We should practice one good deed a day to help reduce the global carbon footprint. In conclusion, let’s try to become responsible environmental stewards
